About This Program

Offers family literacy programs in the Edmonton area and online for parents / caregivers and their children. — Service offers:

Includes:

  • Books for Babies – a 4 week interactive program modeling the sharing of books which provides a free book every week, informaton about early language and literacy development, access to a library and other community resources, and opportunities to socialize around a light meal or snack
  • Learn Together, Grow Together – a 20 week program for parents to learn about their child's early learning and how to support literacy development, success in school, and lifelong learning through learning new ways of using stories, rhymes, songs, and books
  • Rhymes That Bind and Multicultural Rhymes That Bind – a 10 week oral language development program that promotes positive parenting and includes a multicultural component which promotes use of first language, recognition of cultural practices, and connection to community
  • 3,2,1, Fun! – a 5 week program to explore numbers through play, stories, songs, and rhymes that support each child's early numeracy development and helps build a solid foundation for later learning
  • Family Books Club – a 30 week program to help parents reach their learning goals and support their child's early learning development; participants and faciliators work together to choose learning topics and plan activities
  • Edmonton Classroom on Wheels (COW) Bus – a bookmobile that visits various locations around the city
  • Literacy Links – a variety of learning opportunities for parents, caregivers, community partners, and other organizations that work with families with young children

Eligibility varies based on programming:

  • Books for Babies – infants 0 to 12 months
  • Learn Together, Grow Together – children 3 to 5 years
  • Rhymes That Bind and Multicultural Rhymes That Bind – children 0 to 3 years
  • 3,2,1, Fun! – children 3 to 5 years
  • Learning Is Fun Together (LIFT) – parents / caregivers with children 0 to 6 years
  • Edmonton Classroom on Wheels (COW) Bus – parents / caregivers with children 0 to 6 years
  • Literacy Links – parents / caregivers with children 3 to 5 years
