About This Program

Offers in-person and online parent-child programs in different languages in a variety of ethnocultural communities. — Service offers:

  • parenting groups in multiple ethnocultural communities across Edmonton to enhance the well-being of immigrant and refugee families as they adapt and integrate into Canadian culture

Communities include:

  • Chinese
  • Chinese with special needs children
  • Eritrean / Ethiopian
  • Eritrean / Ethiopian with special needs children
  • Eastern European
  • French speaking Africans
  • Karen
  • Filipino
  • Oromo
  • Oromo with special needs children
  • Somali
  • Sudanese
  • Vietnamese
  • and others

Activities and topics differ depending on the needs of the parents, and may include:

  • special topic discussions and presentations in the areas that parents are interested in (such as health, schooling, stress management, nutrition, gender concerns, adapting to life in Canada, and parenting in 2 cultures)
  • children's activities
  • community resources announcements
  • healthy snacks or lunch
  • socialization and networking
  • sharing of cultural and practical knowledge, skills, and resources
  • cultural celebrations
  • special events
  • field trips
  • Rhymes That Bind – learn English and keep heritage through songs
